Nerd Street Consulting

Nerd Street Event Consulting Services

Nerd Street is a full-service event management company. We specialize in pop culture/fan events, but there is no limit to what we can do. We could be brought on to run a specific aspect of an event at the last minute, or we could run the entire event from concept to completion. We have experience running public events from 2,000 square feet to over 1,000,000 square feet. Our reputation has been built with events that run smoothly, deliver what they promise to attendees and exhibitors, and do so on budget.

Nerd Street is owned and operated by Ben Penrod, the founder or co-founder of Awesome Con, Central Florida Comic Con, Alaska ComiCon, Twin Cities Con, Des Moines Con, Sugoi Expo, Annapolis Comic-Con, and Southern Maryland Comic-Con. Ben and Steve Anderson from Third Eye Comics created the Annapolis Comic-Con in 2011, soon followed by the Southern Maryland Comic-Con, both still thriving local shows that cater to comic book lovers. Ben started planning Awesome Con in 2012, and the first one launched in April 2013. It was an immediate success, and it quickly grew into one of the largest fan conventions on the East Coast. In 2019 Ben created Nerd Street as a separate entity from Awesome Con and launched Central Florida Comic Con. In 2020, Ben teamed with longtime friend and business partner Brett Carreras from the Virginia Comicon to launch the Alaska Comicon in Fairbanks, Alaska. In 2021, Nerd Street launched Twin Cities Con, and in 2022 will add Des Moines Con and Sugoi Expo to its portfolio of events.

Aside from his own events, Ben has also worked or consulted with Florida Supercon, Anime NYC, Virginia Comicon, Rose City Comic Con, Crunchyroll Expo, and many others.

Ben has exhibited at Comic-Con International for 10 years, and has exhibited at dozens of other cons around the United States. Ben has attended nearly every major comic/pop culture/anime con in North America, as well as several overseas cons such as Comiket in Tokyo, and London Comic Con.
